As natural-born takers, Jesus' words 'Give and it will be given to you' go against the selfishness inherent in all of us. Serious Christ-followers, however, need to know that God is capable of giving back and re-supplying our needs. Our giving should start with the tithe, the first 10 percent of our earnings given back to honor God with gratitude for what he's given us from his gracious hand. Freewill giving, when God nudges you with a desire to give to some additional cause, is over and above the tithe. And extravagant or sacrificial giving happens when God asks you to make a huge, maybe high-risk, gift. Christians willing to trust God in faith for answered prayer and for eternal destiny need to trust him in the area of finances and trust him to honor their giving with his blessing.
