The desire to acquire wreaks havoc in the personal finances of millions of Americans, but, more importantly, it's potentially damaging to our souls. Too many of us are susceptible to the myth that our 'bling' or stuff defines our sense of self-worth, our sense of security, and our sense of satisfaction. But the reality is-stuff will never satisfy. Stuff is vulnerable to loss and to destruction and can be gone in an instant. Jesus teaches that life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. Our worth and security were established when Christ died on a cross and bought us with the price of his blood. Only a fool lives with no thought of God's activity in his life and in this world and no thought of how we can use the 'bling' with which God has entrusted us to advance causes close to his heart.
