One of the most misunderstood of Jesus' parables is the Parable of the
Shrewd Manager (Luke 16:1-9). Jesus uses this parable to indicate that
Christians could take a cue from non-believers who at times, do a better job dealing with reality than some believers. An example of this is "spiritualizing," the tendency of believers to avoid reality and any problems that come with it. Christians may cover over problems with a veneer of language that sounds spiritual, but in fact, glosses over reality. Jesus says if the shrewd manager had the courage to face his problem head-on by relying on the character of his master, how much more can we face, confident that God can be trusted?
